Were You There?

Joan Jonas and I both invite seven artists and also make a performance ourselves during Were You There? 19 and 20 November 1999 in 's-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven. Concept and realisation in collaboration with Irene Veenstra. The photographs were made by Allard Willemse.

The event was spread over two days. On Friday it was situated in the city of 's-Hertogenbosch. For a whole day, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM performances could be seen in the city, on various stages, in indoor and outdoor spaces. The artists themselves choose their location and decided on the duration of their performances. Some works were long lasting (at least a few hours), others had a more limited duration and a clear progression, beginning and end. On the Saturday all artists performed in the Technical University building in Eindhoven, simultaneously, for two hours in a row.
