Part of my work has always been working together with other artists and the people around me, children, neighbours and friends. I name this my curational practise.

In the nineties (1992) when I started making performances, there wasn't much going on in this discipline of visual arts in the Netherlands. That is how I started organising projects, inviting artists from abroad into the Netherlands and vice versa.

My international network grew, In 2000 I founded the Performance Foundation in 's-Hertogenbosch (now based in Amsterdam). This foundation is committed to find stages for performance artists.

In 2001 Brian Catling († 2022) and me initiated the performance collective Wolf in The Winter a group of international performance artists who met over the years. In October 2024 we'll return to De Melkfabriek in 's Hertogenbosch, to make his tribute. From 2002 to 2004 I lived and worked in Madremanya, Spain. Together with Denys Blacker (ES) we initiated the cultural association Gresol and the first FEM festival in Girona. Denys has continued to develop Gresol, FEM is celebrating its 20th edition this year.

From 2009 to 2011 I was curator of a new PuntWG in the Women's Clinic of the Wilhelmina Gasthuis in Amsterdam. In 2010 To Be Present was founded in Amsterdam as an initiative of the Performance Foundation.

 

Atelier de Waal is my cultural initiative on the island of Texel. It's goal is to collaborate with professional artists from the Netherlands and abroad to exchange cultural events.
